During her working visit to Dublin, President Maia Sandu engaged in discussions with Irish President Michael D. Higgins and Prime Minister Simon Harris. They focused on the strengthening of relations between Moldova and Ireland, the contributions of the Moldovan community to both economies, and Moldova’s steady progress towards European Union membership.
“In recent years, we have successfully intensified our relations with Ireland. We welcomed the decision by Dublin officials to open an Irish embassy in Chișinău, which will bring us even closer and enhance our economic relations. Ireland hosts one of the largest Moldovan communities with great openness and goodwill. We discussed the recognition of driving licenses, a crucial issue for our diaspora, and agreed to advance this with the support of the Irish authorities,” stated President Maia Sandu.
President Sandu also highlighted that Ireland, with its long history of emigration and a strong diaspora that proudly promotes Irish culture worldwide, has greatly benefited economically from its communities abroad. “In terms of economic transformation through integration into the European Union, Ireland serves as a worthy example for our country,” added the head of state.
