I convened today the meeting for establishing the National Committee for European Integration, that brings together representatives of several authorities and will coordinate the preparation process of the Republic of Moldova's accession to the European Union, for which a lot of work has to be done.
I was pleased to find out today that we are ready to submit the answers to the first questionnaire that we received from the European Commission 11 days ago. I would like to thank all those who participated in this process of providing answers, and completing the questionnaire. It was an effort of the Government, of the Parliament, of several institutions subordinated to the Government, and also of the civil society - an effort that deserves all our appreciation.
We do not stop here, because in the meantime, another more voluminous questionnaire has arrived, which we have to answer. Once again, my appeal to the authorities and to civil servants is to work harder and much better than before.
The integration of the Republic of Moldova into the European Union is our country's project, it is this generation's project, it is the light at the end of the tunnel, which we all need. In order to achieve this objective, we must work and engage in this effort, which involves the whole society. We count on everyone's contribution.
First and foremost, the European Union is a project of peace, prosperity, democracy, and well-being. The Republic of Moldova is a small and vulnerable country and it will be safe in the family of the European Union. In this family, we can offer our citizens more security, a strengthened democracy, economic opportunities and prosperity.
We know where we start and what we have to do. We know that we have to make a huge, but real effort to get there.
Once again, I thank all those who helped accomplishing this first step and I count on the continuous involvement and commitment of all those who can contribute to this important process of European integration, the country project of the Republic of Moldova.
