Press statement by President Maia Sandu on the occasion of the meeting with Emmanuel Macron, President of the French Republic
Dear President Roberta Metsola, Thank you very much for the invitation to address the European Parliament’s plenary and for the warm welcome.
Dear President Metsola, Dear Roberta, Honorable members of the European Parliament, I feel here among the true friends of Moldova, in the circle of the family of our people. Allow me, above all, to thank you on behalf of all Moldovans for your constant, unwavering support of Moldova and its European future, at good times and at bad times.
President Michel, dear Charles, I am pleased to welcome you back in Chisinau. Your visit comes at an important moment in the relationship of the Republic of Moldova and the European Union, but also in a complicated context for the region. I appreciate this sign of solidarity with the citizens of my country.
Today we have convened a meeting of the Supreme Security Council on the subject of the incidents in the Transnistrian region and the security developments in the region. What has been happening over the last 24 hours in the Transnistrian region is an escalation of tensions.
I convened today the meeting for establishing the National Committee for European Integration, that brings together representatives of several authorities and will coordinate the preparation process of the Republic of Moldova's accession to the European Union, for which a lot of work has to be done.
