President Maia Sandu met today with the President of the Swiss Confederation, Ignazio Cassis, during the first visit of a Swiss Head of State to our country. The officials discussed the suffering of the Ukrainian people, reaffirming their support for dialogue and peace, and their solidarity with those who have fled the war. The Head of State also thanked Switzerland for its humanitarian aid in managing the flow of refugees and for the financial support worth CHF 2 million, announced today.
During the meeting, the two Heads of State also discussed bilateral cooperation. President Maia Sandu mentioned the importance of signing a free trade agreement between Moldova and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) countries, which would provide additional export opportunities for Moldovan products, especially in the existing regional context and the urgent need for their reorientation. "During the 30 years of diplomatic relations between our countries, Switzerland has supported numerous projects in areas such as local development, health, education, rural tourism and migration. We have good cooperation at the economic level", concluded President Maia Sandu at the end of the meeting with the President of the Swiss Confederation, Ignazio Cassis.
