President Maia Sandu met with German Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development Svenja Schulze during a working visit to Berlin. The Head of State had also a discussion with members of the Bundestag's Committee on European Affairs, as well as with Michel Roth, chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, and Niels Schmidt, foreign policy spokesman of the Social Democratic Party (SPD) parliamentary group.
President Maia Sandu and Minister Svenja Schulze discussed bilateral cooperation and German development assistance programmes in our country. The Head of State underlined their importance for carrying out reforms and improve the living conditions of our citizens.
In the discussion with the members of the Bundestag's Committee on European Affairs, the Head of State expressed her appreciation for Germany’s support for Moldova in obtaining the status of EU candidate country. President Maia Sandu said that the Republic of Moldova is determined to accelerate reforms in order to strengthen democracy and develop the economic sector, which will bring us closer to EU living standards.
