President Maia Sandu held talks today in Washington with Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the House of Representatives of the United States Congress. The two officials talked about the difficulties Moldova and our entire region are facing due to Russia's war against Ukraine, and the solutions we are trying to find to deal with the current crisis.
"I stressed the importance of US support for strengthening democracy in our country and advancing reforms, especially after we became a candidate state for EU membership. We also talked about regional security risks and the impact of the energy crisis on our citizens and the country's economy, underlining that the American partnership is essential to face these challenges," said President Maia Sandu.
At the end of the meeting, the Head of State expressed her appreciation to Speaker Nancy Pelosi for her more than three decades experience in American politics, dedicated to protecting and strengthening democracy in the world.
