The Head of State had a meeting with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees

The President of the Republic of Moldova Maia Sandu had a meeting today with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi who is on a working visit to Chisinau. Officials discussed the current situation in the Republic of Moldova and in the region.

High Commissioner Grandi expressed his solidarity and gratitude for the joint efforts of the authorities in the process of managing the high flow of refugees from Ukraine.

In this context, the Head of State mentioned that the humanitarian crisis is managed simultaneously with the energy crisis, high inflation and the Covid-19 pandemic. The Head of State also mentioned the need for immediate assistance from the international community in managing the flow of refugees and strengthening the health system.

Filippo Grandi assured that the international organizations will intervene promptly and will provide additional assistance to the Republic of Moldova in order to reduce the pressure under which the state currently operates.
