The President of the Republic of Moldova, Igor Dodon, had a working meeting with the Minister of the Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Latvia, Edgars Rinkēvičs on a visit to the Republic of Moldova.
Officials discussed the current state and prospects of developing bilateral relations. Parties stated the fact of the active dialogue between our countries over the past 27 years from the establishment of diplomatic relations.
Igor Dodon expressed his gratitude towards the financial assistance given to the Republic of Moldova by the Government of Latvia in the context of the promotion of the modernization of the country, especially through bilateral projects.
Also the Head of State appreciated the continuing work of the intergovernmental Moldovan-Latvian Commission in commercial and economic, industrial and technical sciences cooperation. In this context, the President noted the activeness of the economic agents from both countries, but the volume of bilateral trade does not reflect the potential needed to be capitalized.
As well, Igor Dodon appreciated the good cooperation at the level of local public administration. "We have already signed 27 cooperation agreements, including 10 agreements between local governments in the North Development Region of the Republic of Moldova and regions of Latvia, " marked the Head of State.
The officials discussed the current political situation in Moldova and the important stage our country is going through in particular the support fully granted to the new government by our fellow citizens and massive support from the most important partners of the Republic of Moldova - both in the West and in the East – which is an excellent chance for country development.
Igor Dodon mentioned that the presidential institution together with the Parliamentary majority and the Government will continue to promote a balanced foreign policy on the basis of the national interests of the country respecting the neutrality status of the Republic of Moldova.
