A new meeting of the President of the Republic of Moldova Igor Dodon with the leader of Transnistria Vadim Krasnoselski has taken place today at the residence in Condritsa, the fact that underlines the established character of the constant dialogue.
Igor Dodon and Vadim Krasnoselski have continued their discussion of the current issues on the agenda and outlined some topics for the future. As they initially agreed back in 2017, there are no forbidden topics for the dialogue between them, which undoubtedly helps to build confidence, even if their positions on a number of issues are still seriously different.
During the meeting, the parties have discussed in detail the progress of the “Berlin+” package, and exchanged views on a number of issues that had arisen in recent months and related to the spread of the COVID-19 virus. In this context, Igor Dodon and Vadim Krasnoselski discussed the removal of temporary “quarantine” posts in the Security Zone, some steps to ensure freedom of movement, as well as to protect human rights and freedoms. The interlocutors have paid special attention to the situation with the preparation for the educational process from September 1, the movement of schoolchildren and teachers, and other aspects in this area.
The parties have reached specific agreements to promote telecommunications, on the criminal cases’ problem and banking issues. They have supported the initiative of international partners to open the Bender-Varnitsa trolleybus line as soon as possible as another project to promote freedom of movement and confidence-building measures.
Igor Dodon and Vadim Krasnoselski have agreed that it is necessary to continue an open dialogue at various levels and platforms, which will help to overcome the barriers that had arisen between the banks of the Dniester due to the pandemic. The interlocutors have noted that, along with official contacts, an important factor contributing to the advancement of the political settlement process is the activity of public institutions on both banks of the Dniester.
The parties have reaffirmed the importance of the ongoing peacekeeping operation on the Dniester as a guarantee of peace and security for citizens and agreed to take joint steps to prevent complications in the Security Zone that could disrupt peace and stability throughout the Republic of Moldova.
The head of state and the leader of Transnistria have expressed gratitude to the mediators and observers in the “5+2” format for their assistance and support in the development of the Transnistrian negotiation process. The interlocutors have reiterated that there is no other alternative to the dialogue and confidence-building, which create opportunities to discuss more complex issues in the negotiation process of the Transnistrian settlement.
