The President of the Republic of Moldova Igor Dodon had a telephone conversation today with the President of the Italian Republic Sergio Mattarella. The officials discussed a number of issues related to the development and deepening of Moldovan-Italian relations in all areas of common interest.
The interlocutors noted with regret that the COVID-19 pandemic had stopped the previously existing exchanges between our countries, including in terms of free movement of persons. In this context Igor Dodon addressed the President Mattarella with the request to allow the citizens of the Republic of Moldova to enter Italy on condition of presenting the test certificates to COVID-19 and performing, if necessary, repeated testing immediately after entering Italy.
In other news the President of Moldova appreciated the support of Italy in promoting the reform agenda of the Republic of Moldova, including the European integration of our country.
The head of state welcomed the fact that in the Republic of Moldova were registered about 1400 enterprises with Italian capital and investments in share capital being about 1.8 billion lei, thus Italy ranking second in the number of enterprises with foreign capital in our country. In 2019, Italy ranked fourth in the world among the main trading partners of the Republic of Moldova, with a share of 7.8% in total trade.
