President Nicolae Timofti today met Bulgarian Ambassador to Moldova Georgi Panayotov on the occasion of the end of his diplomatic mission in Moldova.
Timofti expressed satisfaction with the current level of bilateral relations. The president awarded the Order of Honour to Georgi Panayotov for special contribution to developing and deepening the Moldovan-Bulgarian friendship and cooperation relations.
The head of state expressed confidence that the signing of the Association Agreement with the European Union in 2014 would be a decisive step for the country’s European integration.
Timofti said that Moldova observed the European norms for the development and expression of ethnic, cultural and linguistic identity of the country’s Bulgarian community.
Timofti thanked Georgi Panayotov for an invitation by Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliev to pay an official visit to Bulgaria in 2014.
For his part, Georgi Panayotov welcomed the progress recorded by the Moldovan authorities in promoting the reforms. He assured Timofti of the firm support his country would provide to Moldova in the European integration. “Moldova belongs to Europe, and I hope that it will reintegrate into the European nations’ family as soon as possible. The Sofia parliament will initial the Moldova-EU Association Agreement. At the same time, we back the visa free regime for Moldovans”, he said.
“The representatives of the Bulgarian community in Moldova were convinced, when travelling to Bulgaria, of the benefits of the country’s accession to the EU area”, Panayotov added.
Nicolae Timofti and Georgi Panayotov approached other issues of the Moldovan-Bulgarian relations as well.
