The President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, met today with the President of the European Council, Charles Michel. This was the first meeting of the Moldova’s head of state during her working visit to Brussels.
The officials discussed the evolution of security risks in the region. President Maia Sandu thanked the European Union for its support in managing the refugee flows and overcoming the negative economic and social consequences of the war. The interlocutors mentioned Charles Michel's recent visit to our country, as a sign of solidarity with the humanitarian efforts of Moldovan citizens and authorities in the context of the war in Ukraine.
They also discussed Moldova's European integration agenda. "Granting the candidate status to the Republic of Moldova will be a signal of encouragement and support for our country's reform agenda which is based on the European model," President Maia Sandu said at the end of the meeting.
