President Maia Sandu met today with the Foreign Minister of the Federal Republic of Germany, Annalena Baerbock. The head of German diplomacy is on a working visit to Chisinau to learn first-hand about the security situation in the region and the impact of the war in Ukraine on our country. The meeting was also attended by the Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova, Natalia Gavrilița.
During the discussion, President Maia Sandu and Federal Minister Annalena Baerbock expressed their support for the ceasefire and restoration of peace in Ukraine. The Head of State spoke about the security risks and the major economic impact the war in Ukraine has on the Republic of Moldova. President Maia Sandu mentioned, in this context, the difficult energy situation due to the substantial increase in prices and the risks for the energy security.
An important topic of discussion was the refugee crisis. President Sandu reaffirmed our country's readiness to continue helping people fleeing the war in Ukraine. Minister Baerbock praised the solidarity of the Moldovan authorities and citizens with the refugees and promised that Germany would provide support.
Referring to the bilateral agenda, President Maia Sandu appreciated the support offered by the German side in various fields and expressed interest in intensifying Moldovan-German cooperation, especially in the energy sector.
