The President of the Republic of Moldova Igor Dodon had a phone conversation with Vadim Krasnoselski, leader of Transnistria.
The interlocutors addressed details related to the work agenda of the bilateral meeting planned for the end of July.
A special topic of the dialogue was the temporary posts installed by the Transnistrian side along the Security Zone at the end of March as measures to combat the coronavirus pandemic.
According to the information provided by Tiraspol, initially, 31 checkpoints had been created. After the end of the state of emergency, their number was reduced to 16. At the same time, the Transnistrian side announced that during the state of emergency, the number of crossings of the so-called “border” had been, on average, 3 thousand people per day, which was three times less than before the quarantine was introduced.
At the same time, the head of state mentioned the main position of Chisinau, which consisted in the necessity of continuing measures to strengthen confidence and a constructive dialogue, to restore the regime of free movement for residents on both banks of the Dniester, which had been functioning before the introduction of quarantine measures caused by the pandemic.
Igor Dodon recalled that basing on the agreements with Mr. Vadim Krasnoselski reached during the phone talk on June 3 the Transnistrian side had relaxed some restrictive measures regarding the movement of citizens through a number of settlements under the jurisdiction of the constitutional authorities of the Republic of Moldova. We mean the village of Varnița in the Anenii Noi district, village of Copanca from Căușeni district and several villages in the Dubăsari district (Pohrebea, Pârâta, Roghi, Vasilievca, Doroțcaia, Molovata Nouă, Cocieri). After that, the number of daily “crossings” increased to six thousand.
Starting from June 29, following the removal of restrictions on the movement of Transnistrian residents (up to 12 hours, with prior notice) and the entry of other citizens into the region, including transit (from July 1), the number of “crossings” reached about 12 thousand, so one may say about the gradual restoration of the indicators that were before the quarantine.
At the end of the discussion, Igor Dodon thanked Mr. Krasnoselski for the constructive approach to solving the traffic problems that the inhabitants of both banks of the Dniester face, and expressed the hope that soon all the consequences that appeared due to the coronavirus pandemic would be overcome.
