President Maia Sandu handed over the flag today to the 26 athletes who will represent our country at the Olympic Games in Paris. The head of state noted that it is extraordinary for a small country like Moldova to have champions in 10 sports included in the Olympic Games Program.
“The dream of any performance athlete is to reach the Olympics, after thousands of hours of exhausting work, trauma, pain, and sacrifice, and return home with a medal. We are grateful for the effort they put in every day and we are proud of their achievements,” emphasized President Maia Sandu.
The head of state also thanked the coaches, teammates, and family members who take care of Moldova's champions. The President further mentioned that in recent years, the government has managed to do more for performance sports: scholarships have increased and the conditions in training halls have been improved. The head of state emphasized that the authorities will continue to invest in the development of performance sports as well as mass sports.
