Moldovan president attends event commemorating Soviet deportation victims in northern town

President Nicolae Timofti today commemorated the victims of Soviet Communist deportations of July 1949 in northern Floresti town.

Timofti laid flowers and observed one-minute silence at the commemorative cross at the railway station and tombs of his relatives deported to Siberia.

Timofti lighted candles in memory of deported martyrs at the St. Demetrius Orthodox Church.

Timofti recalled the tragic post-war events together with advisors to president and a group of citizens of Floresti.
