President Nicolae Timofti welcomes the vote of citizens mainly provided to pro-European parties during the local general elections from 14 June.
The citizens’ electoral option confirms once again the adhesion of most people to Moldova’s European development path. This popular willingness must be observed and enforced.
I urge the European parliamentary parties to agree soon on the creation of a parliamentary majority able to vote a new government, which would continue the implementation of the Association Agreement with the European Union and all institutional and economic reforms agreed upon with foreign partners and assumed by most parties politically.
We need this political will in order to develop social and infrastructure projects at different stages of implementation. We also have the obligation to remove drawbacks in the financial and banking system, to foster fight against corruption and to build a fair and independent justice. These measures will allow us to reach a higher level of economic and social well-being and to ensure human rights in Moldova.
