President Maia Sandu began her visit to the United States today with a meeting with Samantha Power, Administrator of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and a good friend of our country. The Head of State thanked the United States for supporting, including through USAID programs, our efforts to improve Moldova’s citizens’s lives for over 30 years.
"Since 1992, thanks to more than $1.7 billion in funding provided to our country, the United States has been helping Moldova to modernize its economy, creating small and medium-sized enterprises; develop agriculture - in particular, the wine sector; develop tourism, light and creative industries," said President Maia Sandu. The Head of State also noted that the American partners support us in our commitment to get rid of corruption and reform the justice system, in strengthening civil society and independent media.
"We also thanked for the committed aid of $75 million in humanitarian assistance and almost $124 million in economic and security assistance to manage the aftermath of the war in the neighborhood and to deal with the worst energy crisis to date," stressed President Maia Sandu during the meeting with Samantha Power, USAID Administrator.
