During her visit to Washington, President Maia Sandu met with Kristalina Georgieva, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund. During the discussion, the Head of State mentioned the importance of cooperation with the IMF to mitigate the economic and social consequences of Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
President Maia Sandu stressed that the Republic of Moldova is currently going through the most severe energy crisis in its existence, and the aim of the authorities is to help our citizens and businesses cope with high energy prices. There is also a need for programmes to increase the resilience of the sector and help diversify energy sources. Kristalina Georgieva said the IMF remains open to working with Moldova and is ready to increase assistance to help overcome the current crisis.
