The President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, along with her counterpart from Kyiv and other heads of state and government, gathered in Bucea today to commemorate the victims of the massacre that occurred a year ago. "I have returned to this place to honor the innocent victims - men, women, parents, and children - hundreds of people killed, many more raped and tortured with unimaginable cruelty. No one could have believed that such horrors, which we read about in history textbooks, could be taking place even now, on our continent, and even in a neighboring country. These crimes against humanity must be stopped and punished!" said the head of state.
President Sandu emphasized that Moldova stands by Ukraine and its people: "We have stood by the Ukrainian people from the first moments of the war, and we will continue to do so until every Ukrainian can safely return home. As this brutal war persists, we remain resolute in our condemnation of Russia's aggression against Ukraine. Alongside democratic states, we choose to stand on the side of the free world. We believe in Ukraine's victory in its struggle for existence as a nation and the restoration of its territorial integrity. And we demand justice - without justice, there can be no peace! Слава України!" concluded President Maia Sandu.
