The President of the Republic of Moldova Maia Sandu met today with the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Belgium Alexander De Croo, who is on a working visit to our country today. During the meeting, the officials discussed about the consequences of the war in Ukraine for the Republic of Moldova, our country's efforts to provide shelter to refugees and also about the regional security. "We need the support of international partners to overcome the economic uncertainty and the difficulties we have encountered because of the war in Ukraine," the Head of State underscored.
The discussions focused also on the Moldovan-Belgian relations and on the European path of the Republic of Moldova. "We want to intensify bilateral cooperation between our countries in the field of justice and the fight against corruption. The Republic of Moldova strives to become a candidate country for accession to the European Union, and we count on Belgium's support in this regard,” President Maia Sandu said. According to the Head of State, state institutions will focus on answering the accession questionnaire sent by the European Commission in the coming weeks. This is the first important step on the path that will anchor our country in the area of European values.
